Vital win

HINCKLEY United manager Dean Thomas believes the win over Ilkeston Town can help to secure the club's place in the Blue Square North play-offs.

Speaking after a 1-0 win away from home and on a day in which league results again fell in Hinckley United's favour, the manager was upbeat once again.

He said: "This was an important game in terms of shaping the remainder of our season and the lads showed again today they're strong mentally and they got that drive to push on for the play-offs.

" It was a thoroughly hard working performance, we kept our shape well against a big side, Connor Franklin and Paul Lister did well at the back against their big lads to restrict the chances Ilkeston had and when they did get through, Chris MacKenzie made a couple of excellent saves.

"Based on chances though, I thought we deserved it and we played some good football in difficult conditions, the goal was a great example of that.

"It's been a tough couple of weeks, these are young lads who've come through well and they're continuing to learn in a tough environment. "
