Thomas calls for shine

HINCKLEY United manager Dean Thomas is looking for a more polished display from his players as they prepare to take on promotion chasing Southport at the Greene King Stadium on Monday evening. (7.45pm)
After watching Andy Hall pull a point back on Saturday with a second half goal in the 1-1 draw with Northwich Victoria, Thomas was in a reflective mood.
"I cannot fault our endeavour out there against Northwich, I just felt we could have been a little more polished at times," he said.
"We didn't do enough in the box, we didn't take enough gambles in getting between their centre-halves, we had a lot of service in there and the ball was bobbling around at times and you have to make your own luck.
"I made that point to them at half-time because I felt for all our possession, we weren't doing enough in the key areas.
"I thought we were the better side on the day, their keeper made a couple of great saves but overall I can't complain at our performance."
The Knitters boss paid tribute to Andy Hall and feels the goal will boost the attacking midfielder's overall confidence.
He added: "I was pleased for Andy Hall who got the goal, he's been a bit down at times but his goal was more like the old Andy Hall that's done so well for us in the last couple of seasons and it will do him the world of good."
Thomas has added striker Leighton Simmonds to the squad for the game against Southport on Monday evening.
Simmonds has been with Hinckley United youth team as a youngster before spells at Atherstone Town and Kings Lynn. He has been training with the club recently but unable to sign due to the transfer embargo which was lifted on Friday. Another experienced non-league and Football League striker is also in the pipeline for the club ahead of Monday night's match.
