HINCKLEY United have signed ex-Premiership striker Julian Joachim and he goes straight into the squad for the game against league leaders Fleetwood Town on Saturday. (3pm)

Joachim (above) who was a fans favourite at Leicester City and Aston Villa and had a wealth of experience at Coventry City, Leeds United, Walsall, Darlington and Boston has come to the club as a favour to manager Dean Thomas.

During the past year he has been at non-league level with King's Lynn and more recently Quorn.

Thomas tempted the 35 year-old to lace up his boots at a higher level again while playing in a charity match at the weekend and after further talks today, Joachim has put pen to paper.

Thomas said: "I've known Jules for a while and he is still fit and wants to play football. We play in the same charity side for Leicester City legends and he is nearly 20 years younger than me! He still has ability and scores goals and at the minute is just helping out a Sunday side so I talked to him.

"He is certainly not coming here for the money - I can assure people that. I have to work within the budget and will not break it for anyone and Jules knows that, it is the same with Carl Heggs they are coming here to add in that bit of experience and as a favour to me and as long as they can contribute and make a difference then that is fine by me."

One player not joining the club is Histon Town striker Michael Frew whose wage demands were too high. As a result, he is expected to join Corby Town.

But another striker and a defender are expected to join the club within the next 24 hours ahead of the Fleetwood Town clash.
