Boss looks for boost

DEAN Thomas is aiming to boost his squad with some new additions after seeing the lack of strength in depth evident during a 1-0 defeat to lower league rivals Barwell last night.

A goal from Joel Potter gave the Canaries a 1-0 win in the quarter final of the Westerby Challenge Cup. The goal from the FA Vase quarter finalists came in the second half infront of a crowd of 199. Hinckley striker Leighton Simmonds was taken to hospital in the first half with a head injury for treatment.

Skipper Rich Lavery made an appearance from the bench in the second half as a substiture and may be fit for inclusion at the weekend against Fleetwood Town.

Thomas said: "I am very disappointed and recently we have had so many bad defeats against lower teams and in the last 12 years I have been with the club it hasn't come as a shock to me.

"As a manager I don't want to lose any game and it showed against Barwell that we were poor and upfront we are seriously lacking players with Chucki being injured, Carl Heggs not being available again and Adam Webster not being there still it leaves us with just Matt West as a recognised name.

"If I had more players I would have been in a position to rest a few more but obviously they all had to play. All credit to Barwell they came here and had a couple of chances and took them."

Thomas has added former Gresley Rovers striker Liam Hebberd on dual registration from Bardon Hill Sports and he has two more in the pipeline ahead of the clash with league leaders Fleetwood Town on Saturaday.

"I am trying every single day to get strikers here at the club and it is hard work," he added.

"I have to get the right ones for the right money. At this time of year, the only ones you can get are the ones that aren't playing and I also have to be careful that the ones I bring in will make a difference and help us along. I am working very hard to improve this club and take us to where I want us to be."
